Strand Palette Effects

So having messed with the Palette OLE and using the manual, I haven't been able to figure this out. I'm wanting to have an effect that can vary the intensity nonstop of a couple channels . Let's say that the minimum intensity to never be below is 20% and the max is 100%. What would be the best way to accomplish that? So far, Twinkle seems to work the best, but that doesn't work continously and pauses some channels momentarily at the value they were set until the effect was programmed.

Second question, how do I use the effects engine to control non-intensity attributes? I might have some I-cues with irises that I want to ballyhoo and pan across the stage.

It's been 2 1/2 years since I used it so I'm a little rusty on tweaking effects. I would just say mess around with the parameters on different intensity of effects until you see what you like. I sometimes got a better result by having some fixtures run one effect while another set runs a different look.

As for movement effects, the software will only allow you to open the effects generator tat a specific fixture is capable of. Once it sees that you have an I-cue a motion effects menu will be available. When it sees gobo rotation or color changing capabilities then those effects generators will be available.

Also note you can lie to the console with the generic patches. For example you can setup your cyc lights with RGB gel and then program their circuits as generic RGB fixture.

You treat non-intensity attributes exactly the same as you would intensity. Just select the attribute button you'd like to apply the effect to, and then create a new effect from there. Depending on the tupe of attribute you are using some effect options may or may not show up in the menu.

Maybe because I'm in the OLE and can't click on multiple buttons with the same mouse or have it interpret multiple key commands but if I hold down F2 for Pan and hit F10 for effects, I still get "New Intensity Effect."

Is your patch setup so that the software knows that channel has an I-cue on it and where it's control data is assigned? I haven't used the OLE that much but if a S4with an I-cue on it is patched then you should see the option of new intensity effect and new motion effect (or is it movement effect sorry it's been a while). If you have a S4 with an I-cue and Seachanger then you should see options for intensity effect, color effect, and motion effect. It should all be automatic once the patch is done.

To set a non intensitity effect Select the channels you want the effect to run on, then to do a a movement effect select S5(position) which will be the F5 key then hold down the shift key and double press S2(pan) which is the F2 key and a popup box with a selection of effects will appear. Select the effect you want to run. After you have the effect running you can adjust the effect rate by holding down key F1 (S1) and scroll the wheel on your mouse. You can press S10 to step thru the different parameters that are adjustable. If you want to do a color effect them press S6 (f6) and follow above. I would suggest going to display and select 'running effects' that way you will be able to see if an effect is running and if you decide later you want to adjust something then click on the running effect and it will repopulate the s1-s4 keys with the parameters. If you start with a circle effect and you decide you would prefer a ballyhoo effect press esc twice and it will release the effect without releasing the channels.

If you are still having issues creating an effect, Bobby Harrell has made several Palette Programming Tips and Tricks documents. If you check out Tips and Tricks #3, it will explain how to create and modify effects.
