Suggestions: Shure VP83 /VP83F or other Shotgun Mic DSLR Canon

We are making short (2-6 min) announcement videos for our church every week. The quality of sound is horrific and it was recommended we get a shotgun style mic to increase the quality. The attachment that was recommended was a Shure VP83F or VP83. Was wondering if anyone had positives/negatives for this idea and/or other suggestions.
