We have an brand new ETC Express 48/96 and would like to sync a thunder and lightning effect using a computer with the sound on it.

I have heard that there is a way to do this using the MIDI ouput on the ETC console. Are there any software programs that I can download that will do this?

You can definetely do this with MIDI, no idea what's out there. If you google MIDI control, i'm sure you'll find tons of stuff. Some desks also will have an audio input which lets you hook in an XLR and write cues to the music. I haven't a clue if your ETC supports this, but you might check the manual and find out.
