1. A person who records a concert from the audience with a portable recording setup. Unlike bootleggers, a taper records with the explicit permission of the artist. Many recordings done by tapers can be found at http://archive.org/details/etree .
From the deleted plural form of the entry:
For artists that allow recording of shows, tapers are people that come to concerts to record them. Unlike bootleggers, they are encouraged to record and share their recordings. Usually tapers will use microphones in lawn seating or rear of the venue to record the show. Some artists will have their engineer provide board feeds via a press box to the tapers. Many tapers recordings can be found at Archive.org.

2a. A type of tall, cylindrical candle that narrows at one end. Usually found on the dining table at Thanksgiving or a romantic dinner.
