Telex BP-1002 talk button not working.

I have around 8 Telex BP-1002’s that all have the same problem. For every one of the belt packs the talk button does not work. When pressed, the LED does not light and no sound is picked up by the mics. I know it is the packs themselves that are dysfunctional as we have around 8 working ones left. If anyone knows any causes and solutions to this, your help will be very useful.

Put an ohmmeter across the talk switch to see if the contacts work. If the switch stays open, it could be as simple as oxidation on the contacts. I would flood the switch with DeoxIT D5 and exercise it for a bit, and maybe it'll work again. You can usually force some juice in around the shaft or any opening of the switch, then tilt it in all directions to coat the insides. If that fixes it, allow the D5 to evaporate a day or two, then spray DeoxIT G5 in it as a preventative treatment that will slow the reocurrence of the problem. D5 and G5 are handy in any electronics toolbox.
