Tinted Smoke/Haze/Fog

I'm working on a production of She Kills Monsters and for the final scene we need to have five dragon heads, most likely four of which will each have some sort of smoke/haze/fog coming from their mouth. To differentiate the different aspects of the dragon heads, the effects with all have a color relating to the breath of the dragon head it comes from. Is it possible to do this by making the smoke/haze/fog tinted to that color or is backkighting the effect the only effective solution

The problem is that the source has to be plumbed to the heads, so lights on the machine won't help unless the machine is incredibly light and can be run consistently while being sloshed around. Also, if the solution is just blacklighting it, that's something I already know how to do. I'm asking if there is a way to have the fog/smoke/haze be a different color by itself.
