Hey all, I'm part of the planning committee for the Upstate New York USITT Spring event, and I wanted to share details with everyone. It's going to be big this year, and hopefully some CBers can make it out!

WHAT: The annual USITT Upstate NY Spring Section Meeting

WHEN: May 2nd, 8:30am - 6:00pm (and beyond!)

WHERE: University at Buffalo, Center for the Arts, Buffalo, NY (Google Maps)

WHO: Anyone! You don't have to be a member of the Upstate NY section to attend, and you don't have to be a New Yorker either. If you're across the border in Ontario or in Northern Pennsylvania or Ohio, make the trip! We'd love to have you.

COST: FREE!

This year's spring event will feature sessions discussing...
  • Lighting design for dance, featuring the designers from Configuration Dance Theatre
  • Costume design for dance, featuring designers from Configuration Dance Theatre and other acclaimed dance ensembles
  • Discussion about the Prague Quadrennial of Stage Design, and how students can get involved in the 2011 exhibit
  • Stage management tricks of the trade
  • Side-by-side comparisons of LED fixtures, featuring demos from more than a half dozen LED vendors from around the country and globe
  • Carpentry tips and tricks
  • How to work well on a call, and what to know before you get there
  • Getting the most out of your summer internship
  • The "Square-off", a fun interactive competition - who can draft the fastest?
  • Food and coffee!
  • So much more!

We'll also be featuring student work at the event - visit the Upstate website for details on how to submit your work to be displayed.

There will also be special ticket deals available for Configuration Dance Theatre's performance that evening, where you can see the lighting tips and costuming tips you learned from their designers in action.

It's going to be a really big event and we're so excited to be hosting. Visit the website for more details, and if you want to come, register at our event page.

Thanks!
