VERY Simple CYC Projection - Do I need software?

I'm a high school student running tech for a middle school production.

The director has asked if I can project a winter scene with falling snow onto the cyc. I've spent time researching projection modeling software on and off this forum, but most of the solutions I've found are designed to accommodate multiple surfaces and other complex situations.

If I'm projecting a scene onto a simple flat surface, can I get away with just playing a video with the default video player on a computer or should I be looking more into legitimate software?

I would suggest embedding the video file into a PowerPoint at least so that it can be cued. Black slide first, black slide with video file, black final slide.

That way you don't see the video player menu or playback bars when you hit 'play'

That's a great idea. The player menu was my greatest worry. Thank you!

I agree with PowerPoint as I have used this multiple times for simple productions like this.
