I need to make a short movie for out next show and need some editing software. I will shoot the footage with a Nikon D750. The software needs to be able to cut in/out, fade in/out, adjust volume, voice over, darken & lighting, go to , black & white, add text and some special effects would be great. Thanks!!

Sony Vegas is a rather inexpensive program that can do all of that and more. They also have a pro version, but it doesn't seem like you need that yet. You can get a 30 day free trial.

DaVinci Resolve by Blackmagic Design recently added some pretty good editing capabilities (it's mostly for color grading). It's actually to the point that it's my primary editing software right now. And it's free. You can't record VOs in Resolve, but you could use something like Audacity to record the audio, and then import it into Resolve.

A pretty robust free editor is VSDC Video Editor. Here's the link. I've used if for some simple stuff but barely scratched the surface of its features.
