Wire Rope and Wire Rope Clamps Size Compatibility

No. The clips and the wire rope need to match. The clips also need to be forged and not cast.

for the setup, each clamp will be holding no more than a pound, maybe two.

Granted I cannot come to your theatre and stop you, but on this forum our rule when it comes to rigging is basically "do it right or don't do it at all". This forum is accessible to anyone with an Internet connection and we don't want people to find threads years later and take situation specific advice as universal truths.

What is the application, and specifically, first, is it overhead? If it is, all that gafftapegreenia said. Generally, no matter what application, they need to be matched for size. I'm not sure that I would say never on cast clips - but certainly not in any application where failure could endanger life and limb. But why not get use to doing it the way it's always safe - right sized and forged - and not have to worry.

I think the "no cast clips" was one of those things drilled in to me at one of several USITT rigging sessions.
