A gaseous discharge arc-source used in the theatre for long-throw followspots and large-format projectors. The xenon lamp likely has the most luminous efficacy of any source used in our industry, but also possesses some inherent drawbacks. The globe (lamp) poses a serious explosion and UV radiation hazard, and thus should only be handled by trained and qualified personnel.
