Also known as a block and tackle. It is system of two or more pulleys with rope or wire rope laced between them. This resulting compound pulley offers a mechanical advantage making heavier loads easier to lift. The individual pulleys are referred to as blocks, while the entire unit is called a tackle once the rope is run through the blocks.
