A lens designed to minimize, even eliminate spherical abberation and other distortions in a lens.

An aspherical lens is neither a sphere nor a cylinder, it is not uniformly thick either. Split along it's parallel axis, each side is not the same (hence aspherical).

An aspherical lens has 2 main uses. One, to bend light so that all incoming light across the entire surface area intersect at one spot (called the focus plane)

The other use is to project light evenly across a single plane parallel to the lens.
