box office

Originally the Box Office was a small squarish office that sat in the entryway of a Theater. It was where people would buy tickets for a show. Now days the term Box Office is used to refer to any area used to sell tickets or act as a Will-Call pick up area. In many theaters the Box Office also functions as a reception area and handles some secretarial aspects of the front office.
