Dimmer Per Circuit. Not until the 1980s did stage lighting dimmers become small and affordable enough to allow every circuit to have its own dimmer. Prior to DPC, most theatres had a limited quantity, maybe 30-120 of large capacity 3,000W-14,400W dimmers. Memory control aided the evolution of dimmer per circuit, and today a small standard stage is a "full rack" of 96x2.4kW dimmers, with 96 circuits distributed throughout the lighting positions. All but the very largest stages can be served quite adequately with 192-480 dimmers.
