A type of phase control dimmer that uses an IGBT transistor as the power device. Switches the line off in the middle of a half cycle rather than on with a normal thyristor phase-control dimmer.

Useful for driving electronic low-voltage transformers for architectural applications. Such devices are specifically designed for reverse phase control dimmers.

Cannot be used with inductive loads like ballasts or magnetic transformers.

Also produces some reduction in filament noise over forward phase control thyristor dimmers.
