Can be problematic structurally. Also can be a bonus due to its unique characteristics added to the wood and can be a visually pleasing additive to decorative pieces.

More common with threaded aluminum and stainless steel fasteners. Preventable with use of molybdenum disulfide or similar thread treatments.
