1) A mutation formed on or in wood due to bacteria, insects, or fungus. A gall prevents wood from being easily cut down, planed, and shaped to be prepared for final use. Can be problematic structurally. Also can be a bonus due to its unique characteristics added to the wood and can be a visually pleasing additive to decorative pieces.

2) A condition wherein a threaded fastener of correct fit and pitch for the threads on a mating piece nonetheless binds up with the mating piece and can no longer be removed by non-destructive methods. More common with threaded aluminum and stainless steel fasteners. Preventable with use of molybdenum disulfide or similar thread treatments.
