On an audio patchbay's Normalled Connections, signal passes from a jack in the top row through to the jack directly below, unless a patch cord is plugged: 1) into the top row--taps off but does not break the connection; 2) into the bottom row--interrupts the direct connection. The PDF referenced below calls this HALF NORMALLED BOTTOM ROW; and states that the opposite: HALF NORMALLED TOP ROW is rarely used.
