MEWP

Mobile Elevating Work Platform, a UK term. From http://www.hse.gov.uk/falls/mewps.htm: "MEWPs include cherry pickers, scissor lifts and vehicle-mounted booms."

In the US, OSHA defines and regulates the following types of equipment under the Aerial Lift regulations (40 CFR 1926.453): "extensible boom platforms," "aerial ladders," "articulating boom platforms," "vertical towers," and "a combination of any of the above."

“Scissors Lifts” are regulated separately under the Scaffold regulations in 40 CFR 1926.451 (General Requirements) and 1926.452(w) (Mobile Scaffolds).
