OLE

Acronym for Off-Line Editor. A program that simulates a Lighting Console on one's personal computer. The first was ETCedit for the Vision and original Expression. Today, almost every console manufacturer offers an editor, which is a great way to become familiar with a console without the expense. Often one can have an OLE and Visualizer running on the same or networked computers, and actually pre-program a good portion of the more tedious tasks in the comfort of one's home. Having already performed functions such as patching the desk, building palettes, setting screen views, allows the operator/programmer to concentrate on actually lighting the show once he is "given the rig" in the venue.
