Ludwig Pani of Vienna, Austria manufactured a line of high-cost large-format scenic projectors that used 18cm slides. These were available in tungsten and HMI sources from 1.2kw to 12 kW. An extensive line of objective lenses and accessories was available, including a a number of automatic slidechangers that handled up to 32 slides that were manufactured by Production Arts in New York.

In the US, Pani projectors were gradually displaced by the PIGI projector from E\T\C Audiovisuel in Paris, and then by video.

Pani projectors are still in use by a number of major opera companies.

Pani is pronounced "paah-nee".
