A coarse file or scrape with sharp, raised, pointed projections. Generally used with wood to remove material quickly,leaving a rough surface that can then be finished smooth with finer tools or abrasives. There are several types and shapes of rasps: half round, round and flat, and are categorized into bastard, cabinet and wood (finest to coarsest).
