Serial Digital Interface.
Digital video format commonly used in the broadcast industry, developed and standardized by SMPTE. When first released, only supported SD resolutions of 480i. Later on HD-SDI was developed for 1080i signals, and 3G-SDI for 1080p signals. 3G refers to the bitrate of 3 Gbps used by the cable.

6G-SDI and 12G-SDI are under development by SMPTE as of 2015, however have not been finalized or published. Certain manufacturers such as Blackmagic Designs have released products utilizing 6G and 12G-SDI technology, however since the standards have not yet been agreed upon, these products may not be compatible with future equipment.
