shock

Shock : Sudden and disturbing effect on the emoitions, physical reactions, etc. This includes Acute Shock, Circulatory Shock and Electric Shock.

Shock (acute): A Dangerous Psychological condition in response to a terrifying, dangerous or traumatic event.

Shock (Circulatory): Life-Threatening medical condition when low bloody perfusion to tissues causes cellular injury and/or inadequate tissue function.

Shock (electric): This occurs when an individual comes into contact with an electrical current and electrical energy flows through part of the individuals body. A shock can be very harmful, and potentially fatal (electrocution).

A common misconception is that higher voltages cause worse shocks. The damage is not done by voltage, however is caused by current. Higher Voltages are simply easier to shock in the first place (less likely to pass through you). People have died from electrocution resulting to exposure to 12V, and survived contact with 200,000V.

Rough current amounts and their impacts:

1mA (Milli-Amp) : Approximate threshold of perception (you can feel it)
4-6mA : Class A GFCI Trip current
10mA : Let Go Threshold
15mA : Muscles "freeze" in 50% of the population
30mA : IEC RCD Standards, Breathing Difficult, Fibrillation in Children
50mA : Begins to be extremely painful, potential of electrocution becomes much greater. Fibrillation in adults.
4A+ : Near-Instant Heart Paralysis, Serious Tissue Damage, Organ Burning
