snatch line

Also known as lift lines. They are cables (aircraft cable, rope, or wire rope) that are used to life a batten as part of a rigging system. A single batten will have several lines, depending on the length of the pipe, that work in unison to raise or lower the batten.
Alternatively:
A small diameter (1/8"-1/4") rope used to haul small items (gels, color frames, etc.) or a larger rope up to a technician (for example, to exchange a moving light) or a line used to breast or brail another hanging object.
