Handheld wireless microphones are the easiest way to mic a performer wirelessly from a sound-person's perspective.

Handheld wireless microphones are manufactured with the transmitter, battery and microphone capsule all in one unified unit. Many models allow for the user to change the capsule to a different one (say a SM58, or Beta87A).

Of course the performer must either use a microphone stand or hold onto the microphone in their hand to use it. Not typically the way to go for musical theatre (unless desired for a particular "look" for a particular scene).

There is a vary large variety of wireless handheld microphones on the market.
