A Lapel mic refers to clipping any lavalier microphone to the lapel (the folded flaps of cloth on the front of a jacket or coat, and are most commonly found on formal clothing and suit jackets) of a performer or speaker.

A very common technique used for television, interviews, and for speakers (the person not the transducer).

Note that this method may affect quality of audio (as with any technique placement does matter)...
