Cobra-Net

Is a combination of audio software and hardware designed to deliver uncompressed multi-channel audio over an Ethernet network. It was developed in the late 1990’s and is one of the first commercially successful ventures in audio networking.

Audio lines from the mixer are sent into a processing unit which converts the signal to something that can travel via standard data network equipment. At the other end the data signal is decoded back to standard audio signal in standard lines. Cobra-net allows incredible flexibility. The sound mixer can be moved anywhere in the space by simply plugging into a network jack. In installations where multiple operating locations are desired, Cobra-net can cut costs significantly. It is far cheaper to setup a small data network with off the shelf components than it is to run multiple audio lines to multiple locations.
