conversion tech

A position in many multi-purpose venues used to describe those who setup chairs, risers, draperies, and other items necessary to convert the space from one type of presentation to another. Although similar to stagehand work, the conversion tech is considered less skilled and therefore makes approximately half per hour of stagehand rates. In hotel ballrooms, conversion techs may be called housemen, porters, or convention set-up.
