diaper

1. noun. Slang term used to describe the muslin or other fabric sheet used when handling an RP surface (and sometimes scrim or other delicate fabric) to protect it from dirt and debris from the floor. Upon removal of the projection surface, the diaper is laid down and spread out first, then the surface is laid on it and both are folded together for storage. This does not negate the importance of having as clean a floor as possible before folding any stage softgood.

2. Noun or verb. Affixing an oversized piece of color media (up to a full sheet) to the front of a luminaire. Most often used on film/TV lights for two reasons: the color wouldn't last in the normal gelframe, and it's faster and requires no/little cutting. Often clipped to the leaves of a barndoor with C47 s.
