fanning

A moving light programming term. Used to describe the adjustment of one parameter of multiple moving lights. For instance, if all fixtures are tilted DS, on a HogII holding the <SET> key and moving the [Pan] encoder will bring all fixtures toward center or splay them away from each other, depending on which way the encoder is turned. The HogIII has a dedicated <FAN> key; on the grandMA <Align> is used. Strand Palette and LightPalette consoles have this, albeit buried several layers deep in menus.

Fanning can also be applied to parameter timing, such as fanning the delay times for pan/tilt so as to create a peel-off.
