level

1. adj. Horizontal. Usually, parallel with the floor, provided that the floor is level. Perpendicular to plumb.

2. Tool, Scenic. Shortened version of spirit level.

3. A/V. Amount of energy in a signal. Related terms: Line Level, Mic Level, unity, attenuate.

4. Lighting. The percentage of intensity of a luminaire. Most consoles use the syntax [Channel] [@] {level in %, or FL or FF for 100%}. Some consoles have a key labeled [Level], user-definable to whatever percentage is desired. If an LD usually brings a channel to 75% initially, setting [Level] to 75% will save a couple of keystrokes.
