When used in reference to lighting, is a Follow Spot term. A pick up is when an operator fades in on his subject. A pick up will also include specifics such as frame, iris, intensity, and if lucky a location.
Example: Spot #2 pick up Joe DSC in a frame 3 in a half body at the top of the next song.
