The most-used type of socket and lampbase for general purpose lightbulbs. Also known as an Edison Screwbase or Medium Screwbase. Comes in at least four sizes, with the medium, intermediate, or E26/27 by far the most popular.
Other sizes include mini, candelabra, and mogul. When wiring a socket, the hot wire should be connected to the center contact, and the neutral to the screw threads.
