Shortened version of "subordinate snake." Often a 4-12 pair snake used to collect microphone signals from a portion of the band or specific area of the stage, in order to reduce the clutter and confusion of running every microphone's cable to the main stage box. Common labels uses would be "Drum sub-snake," "SR sub-snake," etc.
One end usually has a small stage box, and the other a single multi-pair connector or a fanout.
