Rigging lights over scenary via 16 feet long bar

For a truss supported at both ends, the truss would need to be about 19 meters (62 feet) in length. It also would need to be flown just under the celing (height about 8 to 10 Meters (33 feet) height). From there I'd need to somehow lower down the lamps so they are in about 4 meters (13 ft)...

Rigging lights over scenary via 16 feet long bar

fredthe, that's the problem: no way to use a support at the other side. Otherwise it'd be really easy... without that stand it turns into a hard problem. Curious as to what I forgot in that drawing... though please note it's a very simplified drawing just to give a rough idea. belford.

Rigging lights over scenary via 16 feet long bar

Hi guys and girls, I need your help. For a film production in mid september, I need to rig three lights (each about 2.5 kg, i.e. 5.5 lbs) above three tables standing in a row. I can't rig from the ceiling (this is a room 10 Meters (33 feet) high from the 19th century!), so I need to rig...

    Safety screens in Par-cans

PAR64 safety wire mesh - needed for sealed PARs?Hi, anyone familiar with what kind of wire mesh shield is required in a PAR64 when a sealed beam lamp (the "classical" par lamps) is used in it? For Raylight reflectors with the open halogen bulbs installed, obviously a shield is necessary...

PAR64: GE vs. Sylvania vs. Philips vs. Osram vs. Omnilux?

Hey Guys and Girls! What's your experiences with those PAR globes? Comparing equivalent 1k globes, prices seem to be (in rising order): Omnilux (cheapest... 14 eur) Sylvania (midrange..17 eur) GE, Philips, Osram (most expensive, about same price range.. 19-20 eur I've...

Conventional Fixtures New, smoking PAR64 fixtures

Smoking PAR Cans, PAR Can QualityHi guys and girls! Is it normal that new PAR64 cans smoke like hell when fired up the first time?I bought "Showtec" PARs, black. Put a 1 kW NSP in - smoke. It actually smoked to a degree that you could not even use it indoors. Really massive amounts of...

Firing up 5k and 10k tungstens without a dimmer

JD, yes they are expensive, especially the 10ks... :( Ok so I had misunderstood your original suggestion... makes sense then. Just wasn't sure whether a cable of appropriate gauge would suffice to soften the blow. mrb, of course you're right... with proper distro boxes this is not a problem...

Firing up 5k and 10k tungstens without a dimmer

ricky, sure... I don't doubt that.... but when you use a cable actually long (and thin) enough (i.e. relatively high resistance) to "soft start" a 10k (as suggested by JD), I guess you _will_ have quite some voltage drop...? So you're starting the 10Ks directly off the power grid, no problems...

    Bad Repaint Jobs...

Had them bead-blasted, worked fine. Hand sanding is really out of question with fresnels (it's Rand Strands) because you won't be able to reach all the nooks and corners... if you know the Strands you know what I mean... I was bringing up this subject also because leaving the lamp...

Firing up 5k and 10k tungstens without a dimmer

Hi guys Using long cables is not an option: those need to be lugged around as well and are heavy, just like dimmers. Besides, this will mean that the lamp won't run at 100% output - bad when you need constant color temperature. I'm not so much concerned about the tripping breaker per se...

Firing up 5k and 10k tungstens without a dimmer

Hey guys Is there any way to start 5k and 10k tungsten units (fresnels) without a dimmer? Usually these will run over a dimmer board. But you don't have that on location. And carrying a small (haha) 10k dimmer with you also somewhat negates the benetits of not using HMI (tungsten: cheaper...

    Bad Repaint Jobs...

If you have an old light and consider repainting it: please DON'T. I bought some lights off flea-bay, and it turned some they were "re-painted". With black spray can acrylic paint...... Gimme a break... PLEASE! GUYS! This is _ridiculous_. Why would anyone with half a brain spray a 2k...

    Lamping an Altman 360Q 6x16...

Thanks for the info, ship!I will try the GKV then.To my understanding, the law of squares doesn't apply here. The law of squares assumes that the source of light is a (roughly) point shaped radiator that radiates in all directions. This is not the case here, as we have an optical system that...

    Lamping an Altman 360Q 6x16...

Why is a higher wattage lamp needed for a longer throw? Doesn't this depend on illuminated area in square feet only? For example, let's say I have a 6x12 at 30 ft (producing a spot of diameter 14ft) versus a 6x16 at 40 ft (also resulting in a spot of diameter 14 ft). When both of them are...

    Lamping an Altman 360Q 6x16...

Hi Guys...! You can see an FEP here: GE Lighting FEP CP77 Leuchtmittel Maybe it is just the 230V version of the FEL? Lampen für Sockel G-9,5 Which of those would be best to use in the 360Q? Couldn't find a GLA/GLC lamp, but some of those look similar to a GLA/GLC... Les, no, "spotty"...
