beauty light

A light used primarily not to light a subject but to act as a backdrop, usually for camera shots. Most often located at or near stage height and used with a hazer, the projected beam itself is more important then the destination. Large lens wash fixtures are preferred, although you may also see profile fixtures with rotating gobos. These lights are usually aimed with beams toward (but not on) camera positions.

Sometimes referred to as "eye candy" or "video candy".

In the olden days, often 200W PAR46-NSPs were used, gelled saturated colors, and tailed down various heights from the rig. Today most big budget shoots use moving lights.

Especially used in boxing, MMA, and wrestling. One example:
