I would also recommend NOT keeping your Mac Mini connected to the internet. Only connect it when you need to download crucial files, update software, etc. Otherwise, keep it disconnected from the internet, or any networks. This will help prevent unwanted update prompts, or even worse, unwanted automatic updates, which can not only disrupt a performance, but also cause compatibility issues with various versions of software, etc. This also keeps you protected from Spyware, viruses, etc. which can muck up the works.
