kick drum advice

Hi There,

I have a group coming in to perform in our room that plays 50's music.

Their drummer does not use a resonant head on their kick drum. I know this is not unheard of (elvis's drummer didn't use a resonant head?)

We have a beta 91, and beta 52 that we use for kick drums. Does anyone have any advice on getting a big round sound from a kick drum without a resonant head?

Thanks!

Why are you trying to change the sound so much from what the drummer has his kick set up for?

Mic it on the beater side and use it like another Tom. The big kick sound we now know was a product of later rock music. Back then it was just another drum.

I agree. How big is the room? Is it possable to gey away with no mic on the bass drum?
