Acronym for Restriction of Use of Hazardous Substances. RoHS Regulations went into effect in Europe and the UK in 2006, affecting the manufacturing processes of all new electronic components and devices. "Hazardous Substances" as defined by the Regulation are (but not necessarily limited to): lead, cadmium, polybrominated biphenyl (PBB), mercury, hexavalent chromium, and polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) flame retardants.
