    Free falling arbor

Some people at the theatre I work at took a bunch of lights off an electric without weighting it. They decided to unlock it, and the 1500 pound arbor came crashing down to the ground. It put a nice dent in the stop, but do you think any other damage might have been caused? Anything that would...

    Exploding Par Can...

Actually, yes it did. The shards were so small, though, that they went right through the grating. Well, I'm assuming that's what a safety screen is.

    Exploding Par Can...

Last week I was running lights for a show at my school. There was a par can lighting part of the set; I think it was 500 watts. Anyway, just before the show ended, I noticed the light getting REALLY bright over the course of about two seconds. I mean, it looked like it was at 300% intensity...

    Loudspeakers Blown speaker? Not sure.

Usually the subwoofer at the theatre I work at can blast out a ton of bass. The other day, though, there was a concert with somebody playing music they made off of a computer. I had the levels as high as they could go without risking damaging any equipment. The guy at the computer turned his...

    Fire Alarm

It could be a smoke hatch release cable. Our theater has four hatches that open on the roof when the fire alarm goes off to let out the smoke. But I don't really know, that's just a guess.

    Floor mics

I have a floor mic plugged into an input on the stage at our theater. There is no signal, and we tried three other inputs, and none worked. I tried plugging the floor mic straight into the sound board with the same cable, and it started working. The only thing I can think of is that all four...

    Phantom power

Can phantom power hurt anything? I need it for some floor mics, but I also need to plug in a laptop to the mixer at the same time. Could phantom power hurt the laptop?

    Tangled line set

No, we didn't do anything stupid, but something went wrong on the grid. I was lowering our midstage curtain... well, about to. When I started to fly it in, there was an unusual grinding noise. I went on the roof of our performing arts center, and opened a couple of the smoke escape hatches to...

    FCC might kill wireless mics

Hey sorry about that I left this page open and my friend wrote this. I'm not actually that stupid.

    FCC might kill wireless mics

Ok. So if the wireless mics die, will all of our other short range communication tools drop dead? Will our walkie talkies cease to function? And what about anything else that is wireless? Will our internet suffer cardiac arrest? OOO, and our wireless clear coms? Dead? Dead? Well gee wiz, its a...

    FCC might kill wireless mics

If they are going to get rid of wireless mics, why wouldn't they get rid of cellphones? I'm not sure if I quite believe the news about this.

Conventional Fixtures Sync lights and sound

I have a Strand 300 series, and a Mackie SR32-4. I'm wondering if there's any way to sync an effect on the light board with music. It would only be with conventional fixtures, no moving heads or anything.

The most online 'specs' we have are the stage diagram <http://nathanhale.org/festival/stage.pdf> and some pictures <http://nathanhale.org/festival/stageoptions.html>. Thanks for the advise.

I'm from Seattle Washington. I'm a student in high school (Nathan Hale), and I work at the school's newish performing arts center (PAC) - it's about three years old. I've been working there since I was in eighth grade, and this is my fourth year. I do both sound and lights, although it's more...
