I would look at the Shure PGX wireless system. It is by no mean a high end system but it is reliable and within your budget. Shure PGX24/SM58 (J6 Band, 572 - 590 MHz) | Sweetwater.com
You could also try running the cable down the performer's arm and taping it in between his index finger and thumb. I haven't tried this but it has been suggested to me a few times recently (Have to solve the same problem for a coming up show as well.)
Yup, it works great. Once you get everything installed (including the boot camp drivers) you can treat it as if it were any other PC. I've run MAonPC on my MacBook Pro with no problems, although it started to get a bit sluggish once i started running MA3D at the same time...
I'm a huge fan of Allen and Heath gear, especially the GL line. Love my GL2800, but ive also used a couple GL2400s and GL2s. They're great desks. I do also like the LS9, but personally I prefer mixing on analog desks, as long as I have access to some decent compressors. I do like Presonus...
I have always used unlubed condoms in the past but the last show I ran we used sandwich bags. I was dubious but I think they worked much better than condoms. No snapping and much easier to deal with, not to mention a hell of a lot cheaper. I will be using them from now on.
Depends on a lot of things. Do you want powered or passive? What kind of budget. When you say "match with the main pa" what do you mean? No matter what you do it will sound different. For live mixing you always want the engineer to be in the house listening to exactly what is in the house...
I am a fan of the TC Electronic M One XL. It's pretty cheap for the versatility it has (Around $400). It is dual band so you can have different effects on two mono channels or a stereo effect. It's also super easy to use, comes with a ton of really good factory presets and space to create...
I would go ahead and mic them just to be safe. You can always mut a mic that's there, but you can't turn on one that isn't. My last show we miked the crap out of the pit, and ended up using quite of bit of every single mic.
I was the board op for a production of A Question of Mercy, about Physician assisted suicide. The designer chose Sean Kingston's "Beautiful Girls" for speaker check. Good times!
The piano is the simple part, but I still have to say go with your NT5s. Best resilt i've gotten is with a stereo bar in an XY pattern. Sounds brilliant.
My sophomore year of HS the mix position was moved into the house permanently and it's awesome. Never once have I gotten a dirty look from a visitor. It makes verything sound better in addition to making my like easier. For my last show in college we moved the mix position to the back of the...
