The new thread on labeling gel

As a high schooler, I'm in the "as long as it's labeled..." category -- way too many people cut gel without labeling it. However, if given a choice, I'll label it so that it's visible when the gel is in the frame. We also run into problems with people not writing the letter, too. I think...

    Design Twinkling Gobo

I'm not sure what kind of "twinkle" you're going for, but if you have a rotator I'm sure you can do it easily! If you want stationary dots twinkling, I'd do what some others have suggested: rotate a breakup gobo against a stationary star gobo. If you want it to move (as in for a snow-like...

Automated Fixtures Powering moving lights through a dimmer

I believe this should answer your question (see his post above):

Automated Fixtures Powering moving lights through a dimmer

I'm positive they're on a dimmer. The man who is supposed to run them and who set them up knows next to none about them.

Automated Fixtures Powering moving lights through a dimmer

Hmm... Could you perhaps put that in layman's terms? I'm not exactly an electrician, and am just wondering if I should tell him to connect it to a regular outlet. Thanks for the response, though!

Automated Fixtures Powering moving lights through a dimmer

Hello there! I have a quick question for you guys. Just today a group of us from my school went to a local theater to look around, because they're interested in hiring one of us for a stage manager type position. While we were there, I was supposed to help them learn how to run their 3 Studio...

    Brownout repercussions

So last night was our second to last performance of The Crucible, in the round, at my school. We'd had three shows already, all of which had gone off without a hitch. The light plot is pretty simple, with a total of 34 instruments. Most of the show is pretty dim, and usually my levels are at...

Control/Dimming Question about recording to disk on an ETC Express

Yes, we're recording them on the board with which they'll be used, which is a 24/48. Trial and error has proven that this setting is, in fact, saved to disk. Thanks so much for your help!

Thank you! Do you think that includes the board setting? It must...

Control/Dimming Question about recording to disk on an ETC Express

It's not realistic. Most of the schools use old two-scene preset boards in their theaters anyway, I think. And the patch changes because some lights are being reaimed, as well as the fact that some people are using one scene, some are using two scene, etc.

Control/Dimming Question about recording to disk on an ETC Express

Hello there! I just have a quick question about recording to disc on an ETC Express. I'll be running tech checks for both a regional and a state drama festival. We're using an Express 24/48 at regionals and a 48/96 at states. I plan to have a disc for each school that's competing with all their...

    Traveller curtain too short

Re: Tales of StupidSounds like a grand drape, mid-stage traveller, legs, and either a back black or a rear traveller, in that order.
