60's era Klieglight (ERS) Step Lenses

I'm resurrecting my own old thread because I noticed some new things when I pulled out the old Kliegs this week. I noted before that the wide angle fixtures I have produce these weird outer "phantom" rings of light, at about half the brightness of the inner ring, which are not affected by the...

    Lighting Instrument Heat-Resistant Cable?

The olivettes actually use a 500W E39 lamp, so it's not too bad...I also found adapters to covert E39 to E27 so I could use, for example, some of those 300W CFL bulbs. I had thought of using these as portable flood lights in some occasions. But, with that adapter, I could also put in some...

    Lighting Instrument Heat-Resistant Cable?

Speaking of the Leko-lamp, I'm curious how that works...do you have pictures? I have some Kliegl 1355s that I like but they're obviously a bit difficult to use in a house normally, but they might make decent reading lamps if it werent for the fact that they put out 500W and are quite warm. Did...

    Lighting Instrument Heat-Resistant Cable?

I just read the comment about making it a table lamp...interesting idea but I'm not sure if I really need a 500W table lamp. :) Although I did find adapter bases to go from E39 to standard bulb base size (forget the name), maybe I could use some of those to get to a more reasonable lamp size...

    Lighting Instrument Heat-Resistant Cable?

The Altman alternative is quite possible. Does anyone have any close pictures of a Kliegl Olivette for comparison? The catalog image isn't really very specific... -Dan

    Lighting Instrument Heat-Resistant Cable?

I will have to look more closely at them...it looks like they were originally painted black with silver on the inside, but there are many layers of paint on the inside; only one on the outside though. I bought white for the inside because I got it at the Home Depot store in town that's closing...

    Lighting Instrument Heat-Resistant Cable?

What I am doing is rewiring and refurbishing some old floodlight-type fixtures I got for free from the theatre. (Actually for those who are interested, they are Kliegl Olivettes I believe.) They have an E39 mogul base socket in them, which was wired to stagepin plugs, but the wiring was asbestos...

    Lighting Instrument Heat-Resistant Cable?

I actually talked to the TD at the theatre I work for, and he gave me some catalogs. I found that Stage Technology sells the sheathing and the individual wires by the foot. I think the wires are like $.36/ft., and the sheathing is $.42/ft. Thanks, Dan

    Lighting Instrument Heat-Resistant Cable?

Thanks for the lead on the sheath Dustin! Unfortunately, I doubt I can replace the socket in these. I'm relatively certain that someone has the individual wires I need though, does anyone know what type of wire is used in that situation? I seem to recall it's some sort of rubberized cable...

    Lighting Instrument Heat-Resistant Cable?

I'm looking for some place I can buy the special fiberglass-sheathed lighting instrument cable. I need about 10' so I can rewire a couple old fixtures that used to have asbestos wiring in them. I've checked around a few places I know and I haven't found it so far, any tips? Thanks, Dan

Did I get a good deal?

If you want to talk good deals...I don't know if this is really "good", but I like it: I got 4 Kliegl 1355 (two 18 degree, two 27 degree), several spare parts for them, and two Kliegl Olivettes (no stands though, still haven't worked that one out) for free. Theatre didn't ever use them, just...

Kliegl AC Powered Color Wheel Repair

Still wondering about this thing. A "new" motorwould be like $80, so I'm checking around surplus. So far, ebay has not turned up much in terms of 6-8 RPM gearmotors with a 1/4" shaft (or maybe it's 3/8", I don't remember). Anyone have a bright idea for a source for one of these motors? -Dan

Kliegl AC Powered Color Wheel Repair

I took a closer look, and it does appear to be a sealed unit, first of all. Secondly, I couldn't find any obvious source of the problem, unless something went seriously wrong within the motor. The only other possible culprit I see is an odd peanut-butter looking substance that is smeared on the...

Kliegl AC Powered Color Wheel Repair

I have an old Kliegl (I think) color wheel, the kind where you have a large disk with several 6" holes in it that you fit different gel into. It is a motorized one, but the motor doesn't work. The motor hums when you plug it in, but it doesn't turn. There are several gears between the motor...

Good place to order heat resistant cabling?

Actually, I had asked some questions about them before this spring, I just got busy with other stuff. They need to be stripped and repainted for the most part, and I also have to replace the nuts/bolts that hold the bits together. I will then have to get some yokes made up for them. So, I...
