    Moving profile (spot) fixtures

Out of curiosity, why specifically movers? I feel like any show that would need/want them will be touring and will bring their own. And if not, rentals are pretty affordable.I don't know your space or anything, but I would be more interested in purchasing some ETC Desire Lustrs, or something...

Control/Dimming Source Four LED lustr+ patching isn't working right

Hey Kurt,Could you get the Lustrs to do anything? Even just white light?Check out this training video, it might help: ETC Element Training - Part 4b (Patching Moving Devices)I used the Lustrs on an Ion board a few months ago. They're awesome, but can be a bit tricky to patch properly.

Can A Fire Marshal Ban Haze???

I've never heard of a Fire Marshal reacting like that to a Haze machine. Perhaps, if you get grief again, you could suggest posting a notice telling the audience that a hazer, or as he put it "smoke like effect" will be used. If not a sign, perhaps you could make an audio announcement before the...

Trying to find Audience intermission recall bell effect

Agreed about the "NBC" Chime (I believe it's actually G4 - E5 - C5, or something in that range). They use that at the Broadhurst Theatre in NYC, works like a charm. I like having a sound more than flashing house lights, just make sure the audience will hear it!

    Theater etiquette

There's absolutely a trend. I was at the MET Opera a couple months ago.. and a woman's cell phone went off four times... each time I turned around to tell her her phone was going off.. and she insisted it was not her phone...each time getting more annoyed. Finally I asked if she had checked her...

How much weight can these bars hold?

Oh students. I remember being asked once if.. in the absence of a pyrotechnic setup.. a student could just light ground-based fireworks in the theatre. That was only after I had informed him that plugging a power strip.. into a power strip.. into a power strip.. and using all available sockets...

    Advice on cleaning traveller curtains

It's funny... I got up there on a ladder to just take a look at how bad it was in person.. and I realized that even though the rest of our curtains are Rose Brand.. someone has taken an old BROWN border curtain... painted the bottom part that is seen from the audience black.. and kept the rest...

    Advice on cleaning traveller curtains

Yes I didn't even think about the fluorescent lights fading the material. There are worklights that hang right above the curtains. I'm going to see how soon we can get them replaced anyways. Thank you!

    Advice on cleaning traveller curtains

Hey all- So I've started a cleaning project of my college's small theatre. It has no resident technical director because it is so small. It's often used as a kind of "patch and run" theatre... meaning directors and techies will come in, fix up the lighting and backstage areas for the show...

    Question about Projector

I'm researching projectors for a proposal to participate in the METLive Opera Broadcasts from the Metropolitan Opera in Lincoln Center, NYC. The MET lists projector specs that are needed for this, and I was wondering if you guys could give me some suggestions of products to use? Thanks much...

    Safety Cables

The road house/regional theatre I work at uses safety cables. At school here, I was working a show last night, and realized that some lights hanging were not safety cabled (including one that I safety cabled myself when I hung it two months ago. Hmmmmmmm).

Recommendations for Two-Way Radios and Headsets

I know that our theatre doesn't use them... but might I suggest a Clearcom Wireless system? I did a show once at a theatre that used them. They're pretty nifty things. I think these people used the ClearCom Tempest series. Any tech with a wireless pack could go anywhere.. wire free. Reception...

The weirdest thing you've ever found...

I work freelance at a professional touring and regional theatre on a university campus. Two of my favorite finds are: -a robotic dancing and singing Santa.. to scale -a crotchless Scooby-Doo suit.
