    Recording Virtual Choirs / Performances

I did about 5 of these in the last couple months. Getting better at it, but each project is a grind. Here are a few of my tips:The singers should NOT record the music into their own track. They wear headphones, and sing into another device. For my high school kids, it was listen on a laptop...

building a dry ice fog machine

One note that people are not mentioning is condensation. A long run in your hose will accumulate moisture and potentially leak onto the stage create a slipping hazard. Keep towels at the ready and empty the hose between shows.

What is the latest backup technology?

I would have to check to be sure, but our lobby, house and work lights are on the same system, so I assume they are also connected to the inverter. That is why I assumed architectural lighting was part of it.

What is the latest backup technology?

Bill, it is an inverter system. The OnlIne Power Powerwave system. It looks very much like the myerseps system. It is using 48 batteries in two large cabinets. It is just there for emergency power in case of a blackout or other power interruption. We have an ETC Sensor + with 196 dimmers and...

What is the latest backup technology?

Our theater is about 10 years old now, and when it was built they installed a large backup battery system consisting of dozens of marine batteries. The system has been maintained, but now I am thinking that it may need to be updated. What does a current installation use for backup? Tesla wall...

Having some fun with The Crucible

I have seen this as well, and I agree with you that many design choices for their own sake can be a bad call. In the case of The Crucible in this case, I felt like Steampunk kept it in a quasi-period timeframe, albeit less identifiable, and therefore the language and religious fervor still came...

Having some fun with The Crucible

I don't mind the hijack really. It is funny how many people are having issues with a Steampunk Crucible. I received a similar response on Reddit, and more than a few people have expressed the same concern to our Director. Is it that the Play is sacrosanct? Are we protecting Millers Vision? When...

Having some fun with The Crucible

Our Fall play is The Crucible. The director asked for a Steampunk set, and my students really went to town on it. The set transforms and gears turn during the changes. It looks really great with tons of haze and cool lighting. Here are some pics and backstage gifs showing the crew working the...

Using Boom Stands to hang a curtain

One thing to be aware of is that probably everything you are setting up is black and creating darkness in probably an already dark space. I did a very similar thing to create some masking backstage with some lighting trees and repurposed legs and a number of people tripped on the base of the...

    Ornamental railings

I have made ornamental railing similar to this out of long 1/4 inch wood dowel. You have to make a template to bend the railing around, usually a pattern of nails in some plywood, and then you soak the wood overnight in a trashcan or plastic gutter. We made a small tub out of plastic gutter to...

    A pumping heart prop

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002R0DQCU/?tag=controlbooth-20I used this kit to make a clock works turn. It had a nice slow speed and is a very small unit including the 9 volt battery. (buy that and a case separately)I would mount it vertically and mount it inside a rubber heart...

Materials to use for a hollow hemisphere

This is great. Keep this idea around for anyone doing HONK! Making those eggs is always a challenge.

    9 To 5 - Paper Spitting Xerox

I have not had the opportunity to make one yet, but I know that some people mount an RC car upside down and set the ream of paper on top of the wheels and run the car. It seems like a great solution.

Most reliable or safest way to playback full length feature films

Have you considered a digital media player, like a WD player? While I use a Mac Mini and VLC to play videos in our theater. I often have to run them through Handbrake to clean them up and get them all on the right codec and format. In our lobby though we have a large media screen and I am...
