Do me a favor, and critique my portfolio? [Lighting]

Sorry for the lack of information, that last post was done in a hurry. Right now I have part time work. The plan was to get out of high school, find a means of income, and then once stable, find "internships" or other learning type jobs backstage of the theatre. My high school was known...

Do me a favor, and critique my portfolio? [Lighting]

Again, thanks for the great criticism. And everyone is totally right, I don't fit into the design world just yet. I thought it was a catch all term, and was wrong, thanks. Now I'm having trouble figuring out what title exactly to market myself with. At the current moment, I can write up basic...

Do me a favor, and critique my portfolio? [Lighting]

Thank you very much for the criticism, clearly I needed it. Here's take two, with a little more common sense to go with it. - Tyler "TJ" Molamphy, Lighting Designer It will go live on my domain later tonight. Unfortunately, as far as the photos go, it's all I have. My copies went...

Do me a favor, and critique my portfolio? [Lighting]

I'm fresh out of high school, trying to land gigs. I don't have a traditional resume yet, that's in the works. Meanwhile, I give everyone the address of my small portfolio. Please look at mine, tell me all that's right with it, all that's wrong with it, and what you would do in my shoes. You...

Cyc and strip as a set

Good info through that link, thanks guys. The biggest thing wasn't really time of day now that I read into the script a bit more, (we just got them.) A huge piece of the show is transitioning from the museum into the actual grounds. So the cyc will be mainly Amber for this show. We don't...

Cyc and strip as a set

We're doing a production of AIDA here in our highschool. I'm the Lighting Designer, Electrician, and everything else. Our set is basically cyc lights and strip lights, plus furniture and moving pieces. Let me explain. We have four cyc fixtures at the top of the cyc capable of reds, blues...

    A use for old gels

In our highschool I keep most of them, and when we do musicals, we gel the little lights that the orchestra uses over their sheet music.

    Control/Dimming Permanent intensity

Oh yeah. I probably should have said that. We use an ETC Express 48/96. We have the manual ("the bible") right next to it, and I have the PDF version with me on my iPhone. Now I can find parking dimmers j the manual. Thanks a bundle.

    Control/Dimming Permanent intensity

As we retool our theatre, we are planning on hanging small fixtures with just normal 40watt house lamps backstage to light the area that the actors use. So I need a way to power these guys at 30-50% whenever our board is turned on. I'm pretty sure that I can accomplish this through the patch...

    Rope Light For house lights

I know it doesn't help much bringing up old issues, but our auditorium has house lights running off of 3 dimmers (front of house, center, rear.) and our auditorium is thirty years old.We also just this year had isle lights installed for us, which is always an option. I can get you the brand...

No lifts or catwalk use at our School!

Actually, there is a play in our up-and-coming show at our highschool. Grabbing insurance for that is a great and overlooked idea, that I'll have to bring up to the TD. And in our theatre, we use catwalks all the time with express district permission. Only theatre adults, and lighting kids...

    Anger Management?

Alright, let's walk backwards through all of this.Woah, elephants. And graduations... Yeah I find that tolerance is low on most show nights. That's what I'm trying to work around.kendal69, You are one amazing person, to give all of this off to some random Joe on the internet. Thank you so...
