    Capstan Winch substitute

Hello All, I could really use a capstan winch at my theatre, but I can't afford one. So: Why couldn't I similarly anchor a chain hoist and use it, attached to an arbor, in place of a capstan winch? Has anybody seen this done? It seems like an obvious workaround if a properly located structural...

    Camera for monitor system

We use the Sony SNC-RZ25N. It works great, and can send to monitors and/or a network. I view and listen to the stage whenever I'm at the computer in my office. Fully controllable, sees in the dark, zooms down really close, etc etc. Sony Product Detail Page - SNCRZ25N

copyright stuff...hope this is in the right forum

I would point out that the actual cost of ASCAP or BMI fees are super cheap most of the time, and worth paying, as it affects our industry. I'm having a problem with one of these also. What if the unit is getting power, the lamp is new and ok, but it won't strike and the fans won't kick on. I'm beginning to think it is one of the 2 microswitches that disable striking when the lamp housing is open?? It seems one may be bad. Anyone...

    Poll: Operation of fire curtain

My local Fire Marshall (Utah) has told me that the Fire Curtain should lower in 30 seconds or less. I am unsure of the proper speed, but ours moves at 1 foot per second (27 foot pros.), w/ warning 'clicks' every foot for the last 8 feet. I can adjust this speed by adjusting counterweight on...

    rigging inspection and documentation.

Gafftaper is right, Documentation is SO important. If anything were ever to go horribly wrong, proper documentation can also be used to mitigate liability. I do all of my own rigging inspections and maintenance, and I have found it really useful to get my crew into the habit of writing down...
