Mixers/Consoles Behringer X32

Anyone else following this? I'm interested in getting my hands on one to mix a local band. May end up replacing my analogs with a couple of these if they perform well.

What are your thoughts?

These are just now being shipped/hitting the shelves. I think this could do somewhat well if people can get over a Behringer-Phobia. Not that all Behringer gear is bad, their small-format mixers are fine for small stuff however, in the larger stuff, I feel that they sometimes try to load too many features in for such a low price, that quality can slip. This particular product looks okay however, the flipping through pages is kind of a non-sell for me. Thats why I would prefer a studiolive for a small/mid sized band setting. Regardless, anytime I hear about Behringer, I just can't stop thinking of the "eurolight" lighting console.

I just got one an have it installed in our theatre. It works better than expected. It actually replaced several pieces of equipment since QLab can interface directly with the desk over Firewire. It is powerful enough for a medium sized musical, but I wouldn't recommend it if you have to run 19 wireless mics and a fully wired pit, but the bang for the buck is quite impressive.

The feedback I am hearing regarding the X32 has been very positive, at least in comparison to other less than $10k competitors, with the caveat that it is too new to yet assess durability or reliability. However, your comment touches on what I see as potentially one of the limitations of the X32 in some applications and that is that input and output assignments are in blocks. For example, I believe that if you want to assign any of the FireWire/USB signals to standard channels you have to do so in blocks of 8 channels, thus you actually have to assign 8 of the input channels (or 4 of the Aux inputs) to the FireWire interface even if you have just left and right from QLab. This 'block' I/O assignment is something to consider for some applications, especially if using a mix of local, FireWire/USB and remote AES50 inputs and/or outputs.

A theater that i used to work with got a grant approved for one of these, to use for monitors, back in June and they're hopefully going to be getting it soon. we chose it because its similar to the yamahaLS9-32, which we have running FOH. so hopefully it will work out very well for them. i'll be sure to pass this forum along to them so they can get some of the hands on pros/cons out there.
