Environmental Factors of Lauan

I'm reading Ionazzi's the Stagecraft Handbook and in the section talking about wood types, with lauan it says there are some negative environmental factors with it which is why some theatres are trying to find a better alternative to using it and I'm wondering why?

Does anyone know what those factors are?
